Hi Carol,

I wish I did have dates. It could be the James Harlan Barrett from Santa Clarita is a brother (or half brother?) to my daughter-in-laws' mother, but there has been no mention of one. The date would be about right, but we can't seem to get any dates or locations from anyone. That would make the James Harlan (the son of James Harlan and Mae) born in the early 20's at the latest... unless he were a child-father, which I doubt. That means James Harlan and Mae were probably born just before or just after the turn of the century, so Oklahoma could have still been a territory. (I also tried the territorial census.) I've tried checking the Oklahoma censuses for 1910 and 1920 and can't find any promising leads under Smith or Barrett. Nothing seems to fit. I also tried to look on some "reservation" rolls (Tallequah in particular) but can't seem to find anything. I've found nothing in California either, other than the death record you found. Got any ideas?

Sharon
