I am on the hunt for more information about L.B. and Mary Jones. I live on property and possibly in a house that they owned. My abstract for my property in Stillwater, in Payne County, Oklahoma indicates that a Frank Wittum sold this property to L.B. Jones in October 1907. It also indictes that Jones sold some of the property for public use/roads and that same month, in April of 1909, sold the property in it's entirety. What I find most confusing is the fact that the builder, Charles W. Skinner, imprinted/burned his initials and the date 7/17/1909 on wood trim in two places in the house. I just made the assumption that date was the completion date which means the Jones' had since gone when the house was finished. But if that were the completion date then April to July wasn't enough time for a house to be built by the next owners (Alex and Carrie Drake). I would really like to know who ordered the building of this house- the Jones' or the Drakes. Someone took great care in choosing certain components of this house yet overall, it was small for a Victorian home. I've been told this area/neighborhood appears to have been occupied by small business owners/businessmen during that time span. I don't know how accurate that is. Our neighborhood is called the Jones Addition named after L.B. The abstract indicates it was called such after he sold the land portion for the roads. This property was split many times by many of the previous owners as it was part of the oringial 120 acre tract that was settled in the Oklahoma Land Run. That's really all I know. Certain parts of the house we have are very ornate and unique and fortunately for us some of those things have been preserved, which still amazes me. The house has changed hands several times after the Moseley/Grayson family reign from 1916-1980. The extremely ornate entry way and double mantle fireplace with a wrought iron insert look like upscale items/choices but based on the size of the home and the lack of such detail elsewhere I wonder about it. No where in my abstract does it indicate a first or middle name. Marilyn from a Jones forum was also searching for an L.B. Jones in Oklahoma. She said his first name may have been Lilburn. She also indicated she thought he may have been a deputy but didn't say where. Any information would be great. I'd also be glad to share anything about this house or the area that I know.
