Cornish-Ringling Times Cornish, Jefferson County, Oklahoma Friday Morning, July 7, 1916 Deceased HARLEN, the 20 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. ED RIDDLE of Cornish, died Saturday about 7:40 p.m. and his remains were buried in the Cornish cemetery, REV. L. P. MORRIS conducting the service. B.E. MCCREARY moved his shoe shop to the SIM STOLTS building in Ringling opposite WOODWORTH’S garage. MRS. C. W. HAMILTON and three children from McAlester arrived to join Mr. Hamilton who is manager of the Ringling Harness and Saddlery Co. Democratic announcements J. R. BURTON for county weigher A.W. HAMMONS for commissioner Friday Morning, July 14, 1916 Gun Shot Ends Life of Young Wife in Room at Grandfield Tuesday night, it was reported that MRS. RUBY IRBY, wife of HERBERT IRBY, had shot and kill herself at Grandfield. Later it was reported that Irby had shot his wife in their room at a boarding house in Grandfield. Irby was arrested. Mr. and Mrs. Irby are both well known here, having been married in May. They left for the harvest fields three weeks ago. Her remains were shipped here for interment. REV. MORRIS, her father, was conducting a revival at Mountain Home school when he learned of his daughter’s death. D. B. NELMS of Wirt visited his son and daughter at Ardmore. The Citizens Alliance Association purchased a fire engine. Grady Couple Weds Here In the office of the justice of the peace Tuesday, FRANK CRAWFORD and MRS. BELLE BEELER, both well known and prominent citizens of Grady, were happily united in the bonds of matrimony by Judge HARRIS. Electric light system has been installed and will begin operation in Wirt. Old Timers Celebration, Draws Crowd to Ringling The olds timers picnic near Ringling had a large crowd gathered in the beautiful grove near the home of J. J. CLOUGHLY. The place was ideal, lacking a good well of water which had be hauled. Disappointment was due to lack of barbecue. Many brought their dinners which was spread around. There were stands from which lunches were sold. Speeches given, game played, and a dance concluded the entertainment. J. H. CORNISH promoted the picnic. CHARLES GILMORE of Campbell, Texas attended the funeral of his cousin, MRS. RUBY MORRIS IRBY. J. S. DILL of St. Jo, Texas was here MRS. C. M. MCCREARY and daughter returned from visiting her mother at Gainesville. WILLIAM HAILEY, the dairyman near Cornish, was slightly injured while dipping some cows. REV. JOHN TRIMBLE and wife are still running a revival meeting at Dundee and the report is that much good is being done. About 30 have been converted. W. W. AYERS returned from Bluff Dale in Texas. W. R. SEABORN returned from a trip to Petersburg. Center Point Gets Teacher The annual school meeting of the board of trustees was held Tuesday; J. R. BURTON was re-elected clerk of the board, his term had expired. Mr. Burton has served five years as clerk. MISS DESSIE RYAN was selected as teacher for the next term, a six month term to begin early this fall. Deputies Will Recover Hot Springs, Arkansas, July 11—Both deputy sheriffs DAVE YOUNG and HENRY HOUNT, who were wounded last night when Sheriff CHARLES C. WEBB was killed in a pistol battle with “DOC” PHILLIPS. A posse of citizens killed Phillips. Phillips came 18 months ago from Dallas, Texas, leaving a wife and nine children and was known as a treasure hunter, having visions where he imagined he was on the verge of discovering a rich gold mine.
