Frances, could this be a possibility for Catherine Combs? This is from US Genweb Census Project as found online.

Indiana, Vigo County, Honey Creek Township, page 139b, Reel No: M432-177

Family No. 158, all children were born in IN
Lucinda Combs, age 39, b. KY
Martha Combs, age 15
Catherine Combs, age 12
Jonathan Combs, age 10
William Combs, age 8
Elisabeth Combs, age 5
Taylor Combs, age 3

The early Indiana Marriage Records Index which is online shows this marriage:

John Combs m. Lucinda Pounds, 25 Sept. 1834 in Vigo County.

There is a James Sils, age 17, shown on page 147a, Honey Creek Township, Reel No: 432-177, enumerated with this family:
Isaac L. Jordan, age 25, b. IN
Clemsa Jordan, age 21, b. IN
Clarabell Jordan, age 1 month, b. IN

James' occupation is shown as Laborer. His birthplace in the census enumeration was given as IN. However, we never know who actually gave the information to the enumerators. If he didn't give it himself someone in the household might have guessed at it. If this could be your James Sills, it is going to make finding his family more difficult. The early Indiana Marriage Records Index gives Clemsa's name as Clemsy St. Clair.
