I'm trying to track down information on John Hatfield and have hit a bit of a brick wall. here is what I have.
My wife's Great Grand Father is Gilliam Hatfield. Gilliam Hatfield (12/20/1879-5/5/1963) died in Wayne County, MI and was buried in Detroit at Woodmere Cemetary. He lived in the Detroit area for about 35 years. He was born in Tennessee (location unknown) and his occupation was Coal Miner. His Father was John Hatfield and his mother was listed as Catherine Shadwick (I've seen numerous postings out there for a Katie Shadrick and the overlap is difficult to ignore. The question is, which is correct? Katie Shadrick or the Catherine Shadwick on Gilliam's death certificate?). At his time of death he was married to Inez Hatfield. This information is all straight off his death certificate and is attested to by his son, Joseph Hatfield.
He had several children by his first wife, Ada Lane. They were:
Edith Agnes
Herschal (sp. ?)
Ida Mae
Joseph
Albert
"Pony" (I think it's a nick name. I have a hard time fathoming that this is his given name).
He lived for awhile in Oklahoma and Illinois. He did have a sister, Sallie. She was a Nunley. We have a photo of his father (John Hatfield), his mother (Catherine/Katie) and Sallie taken when Sallie looked to be about 16-18 years of age.
So, I guess I'm trying to:
1) Reconcile the Katie/Catherine Shadwick/Shadick discrepancy (there are Shadricks and Shadwicks that came form Hamilton County and the surrounding counties of Sequatchie and Marion, TN)
2) Confirm the info circulating on Catherine/Katie on the message boards (b. 1855 in Hamilton County, TN, d. 1925 in IL)
3) Confirm info on John on the message boards (b. 1854, d. 1914 in Okmulgee Co., OK of Smallpox. Buried in Henryetta-his grandson, Joseph, moved back there after Gilliam died in Detroit.
4) Confirm the info floating around on their kids (Amanda, Gilliam, Elizabeth, Foster, Lettie Jane, Matilda, Sallie and Allie) and tie them back definitively to the John, Sallie, Catherine/Katie and Gilliam I am looking for
5)Figure out where John came from and who his parents were as well as Catherine/Katie's parents.
If anyone has anything and can help, I'd appreciate it. There's a digitial photo of John, Catherine/Katie and Sallie in it for you as well as a pdf of Gilliam's death certificate.
