I don't have information directly related to your grandmother, however, we came across a similar situation in our family. My gggrandmother was listed as a full blood Cherokee but when she got married (in Oklahoma) her husband did not want to make a long drive so he took her to Talleqah to register as a Choctaw. Family legend has it that Turkey said "An injun is an injun". Apparently he was not a real nice guy. I thought that maybe this will help you in your search.
