Update on the State Home
The Eastern State Orphans Home at Hogan is the Whitaker Home. It is listed on the census at that time as Hogan Township and was under that name when the state took it over at statehood. Later, the name was changed back to Whitaker. It was founded in 1897 by W. T. Whitaker and came under state control about 1908.It was in operation until about the 1980's. Information is available for the orphans who were there.
