Earl Harris was born February 7, 1887 at Cooke County, Texas. His parents were Sam David Harris and Melvina Embry Harris. On April 10, 1908, Earl Harris married Julia Wooldridge at Leon. Julia, the daughter of John Wooldridge and Martha Elizabeth (Molly) Wilkerson Wooldridge, was born September 12, 1891 in Tennessee.

Earl Harris farmed in the Leon and Jimtown area. He settled at Jimtown, where he was a farmer. He liked to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He died May 25, 1943 at Jimtown and is buried at Leon. Julia Harris moved to California after her husband's death. She made her home with her son, Howard and helped raise her granddaughters, whose mother died when they were very young. She returned to Love County in 1973 and died December 7, 1980 at Ardmore. She is buried at Leon. Their children were all born and raised at Jimtown.

The children of Earl and Julia Harris were: Dorothea (March 6, 1909), married George M. Hicks. Their children: Arzella, George M., Jr., James D., Billy Royce, Roscoe and Daroleen. Flossie "Sis" (February 15, 1911), married Jim Ed Blakley. Their children: Winifred, Archie Allen, James, Lewis, Lois and Linda. Sam (July 8, 1914), married Nora Sullivan. Their children: S. W., Wanda, Carolyn, Paula and Larry. Howard (December 1, 1917-August 4, 1980), married Epsy Ladner. Their daughters: Ramona and Edgaretta. John Hoyt (March 11, 1921 - July 18, 1927). Maxine (December 26, 1925-February 28, 1935). Earl, Jr., (January 22, 1929), married Caroline Nelson. Their children: Donald Wayne, Kathy and Kenneth.

Funeral Held For James A. Brown

Funeral services for James Albert Brown were conducted Thursday Afternoon at 2:30 from the Leon Baptist Church with the Rev. W.P. Rowland of Marietta and the Rev. Bob Walls of Leon serving as the officiating ministers.

Mr. Brown died June 16 at his home in Leon where he had been a successful farmer and rancher for many years.

He was born November 3, 1882 in Wise County, Texas and was married to Miss Josie Harris on April 9, 1905 at Leon. They were the parents of 14 children, five of whom survive.

Mr. Brown was a member of the Leon Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by his many friends throughout Love County.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josie Brown of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Viola Turner of Burneyville, Mrs. Juanita Hartman of Leon, Mrs. Lillian Husband of Grand Prairie, Texas and Mrs. Bertha Reynolds of Comanche; one son, Burl Brown of Leon; two brothers, Tom Brown of Rhone, Texas and Rob Brown of Leon; one sister, Mrs. Royce Denton of Jacksonville, Texas; three half-brothers, Charlie of Campo, Texas, Sam Brown of Drain, Oregon and Gordon Brown of Garland, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Leon Cemetery under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William and Rosemary Brown of Marietta; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Edard Culwell of Marietta, Sue McQueen of Ardmore, Barbara Clason of Oklahoma City, and Minnie and Jim Blodgett of Wilson; a brother, Raymond Brintle of Leon; two sisters, Willa Mae McCarty of Leon and Opal Blankenship of Courtney; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband on March 5, 1961, and a granddaughter, Tammy McBride on February 12, 1993.

Interment in the Leon Cemetery was under the direction of the Anderson-Kennedy Funeral Home. Grandsons served as casket bearers.

Born February 11, 1912, in Wise County, Texas, Mrs. Hartman died April 27, 1994, in an Ardmore hospital at the age of 82. She was the daughter of Albert and Josie Harris Brown.

Mrs. Hartman was a homemaker and had worked at Marietta's Bakery for many years. She had lived in Leon most of her life and was a member of the Leon Baptist Church. She married P.F. "Pug" Hartman on November 12, 1932, at Leon, and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1986. Mrs. Hartman was also preceded in death by a brother, Bud Brown in 1961.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, P.A. and Reba Hartman and Tommy and Carolyn Hartman of Leon, and Grady and Sharon Hartman of Dallas, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Jim Shaw of Comanche; a brother, Burl Brown of Leon; three sisters, Viola Turner of Marietta, Bertha Reynolds of Comanche, and Lillian Husband of Grand Prairie, Texas; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Held For John David Harris

Funeral services for John David Harris were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Leon School Auditorium with David Slimp of Marietta and Cecil Morrison of Dillard serving as officiating ministers.

Mr. Harris died December 19 in an Ardmore hospital. He was born December 12, 1890 in San Saba County, Texas and made his home in the Leon community since 1896 where he followed the business of farming. Mr. Harris was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was married to Miss Ollie Agnes Nance on December 27 1910 at Burneyville.

Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Harris of Leon, three sons Charlie Harris of Oklahoma City and Jack E. and Clifford Harris, both of Leon; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Brown of Rhome, Texas, Mrs. Josie Brown of Leon and Mrs. Minnie Powers of Corona, California; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Interment was in the Leon Cemetery with the Goodrich Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Serving as casket bearers were Rob Graham, Ernest Taliaferro, Badger McBride, Ben Roach, Thurston Hicks and J.H. Brewer.

Funeral services for Jack O. Harris were conducted Monday, August 8 at 2 P.M. from the Jimtown Baptist Church with Rev. W.H. Mapp serving as the officiating minister.

Mr. Harris died August 1 in an Oklahoma City hospital. He had been seriously ill for the past two weeks.

He was born in Texas on July 27, 1892 and had lived in Love County for 65 years where he had been engaged in the business of farming.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Bolin October 5, 1919 at Leon. They were the parents of three sons.

Mr. Harris was a member of the Jimtown Baptist Church and served in the United States Army during World War 1.

Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Harris of the home; three sons, Jack O. Harris Jr., of Oklahoma City, Ray Harris of Healdton, and Bobby Harris of El Paso, Texas; one brother, J.D. Harris of Leon; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Brown of Rhome, Texas, Mrs. Minnie Power of Los Angeles, California and Mrs. Josie Brown of Leon and nine grandchildren.

Interment was in the Leon Cemetery with the Goodrich Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Serving as casket bearers Frank Hull, Jim Ed Blakely, Emory Hicks, John Henry Brewer, Earl Hicks and Boss Hicks.

Funeral Rites Held For William G. Harris

Funeral rites for William Granville Harris were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Jimtown Baptist Church with Rev. W.P. Rowland and Rev. W.H. Mapp officiating at the service.

Mr. Harris died Wednesday at his home in Jimtown following an illness of three years.

He was born May 26, 1894 in San Saba County, Texas and was married to Miss Clara Bolin on January 3, 1915. They were the parents of two children, one of whom survives.

Mr. Harris had lived in the Jimtown community for 62 years, moving to that locality with his parents when he was one year old. He was in the business of farming until ill health forced his retirement. Mr. Harris had been a member of the Baptist Church for many years.

Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Clara Harris and a daughter, Winona Harris of the home; two brothers, J.D. Harris of Leon and Jack Harris of Jimtown; three sisters, Mrs. J.A. Brown of Leon, Mrs. C. Power of Firebaugh, California and Mrs. J.T. Brown of Rhome, Texas.

Burial was in the Leon Cemetery with the Goodrich Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Serving as pallbearers were Raymond Hadley, Jabe Gordon, Earl Hicks, Frank Hall, Wallace McBride and L.L. Hall.

Born March 6, 1909, at Leon, Mrs. Hicks died June 26, 1999, in Marietta. She was the daughter of Earl and Julia T. Wooldridge Harris.

Mrs. Hicks grew up in the Leon and Jimtown communities and married George M. Hicks, Sr. on September 15, 1928, at Jimtown. They made their home at Jimtown and raised their family there. She was a longtime member of the Jimtown Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Daroleen Bucher of Marietta; three sons, George M. "Bugs" Hicks, Jr. of Marietta, Roscoe A. Hicks of Jimtown and Billy Royce Hicks of Knoxville, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband on April 14, 1977; a daughter, Ozella Marie Hicks; a son, James D. Hicks in 1982; a grandson, Donald Iran Bucher in 1986; two sisters, Flossie "Sis" Blakley and Maxine Harris; and four brothers, Sam Harris, Howard Harris, Earl Harris, Jr. and John Hoyt Harris.

Interment was in the Leon Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson. Pallbearers were grandsons, Steve Bell, Bryce Bell, Dillon Bell, Steve Calhoun, Devon Hicks, Lucian Raymond, Bob Shears, Wayland Webb, Billy Gene Hicks, Ricky Lynn Hicks, Aron Hicks, Brent Lemons, Quentin Bucher and Dewayne Riley.

MARIETTA -- Services for Clifford J. Harris, 74, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ with Bro. Ray Hilliard and Bro Floyd Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Leon Cemetery.

Born Jan. 14, 1926, at Leon to John D. "Sangie' and Ollie A. Nance Harris, he died May 5, 2000, at a Marietta hospital. He was preceded in death by one son, Steve N. Harris, Dec. 21, 1980; two brothers, Charlie Harris and Jack Harris; and one sister, Irma Harris.

He married Elena Tapp on Dec. 4, 1949, at Gainesville, Texas.

He lived most of his life at Leon, except for a move to Blythe, Calif., in his late teens and six years at Wilcox, Ariz. He moved to Marietta in 1995. He was a member of Marietta Church of Christ. Harris was appointed by Gov. George Nigh to fill an unexpired Love County District 2 Commissioner term in 1982 and he continued in that position until his retirement in 1996. He served as a board member for Southern Oklahoma Development Association from 1983 to 1987; Big Five Community Service from 1987 to 1995; and SONP from 1988 to 1999.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Sheryl Harris and Jeff and Regenia Harris, all Marietta;

one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Larry Sorenson,Buffaloe, Mo.; eight grandsons; three granddaughters; three greatgrandsons; and one great granddaughter

Bearers are Jim Williams,.Marion Hicks, Larry Hicks, Duane Hicks, LarryTaliaferro and Eddie Sampson. Honorary bearers are

Mr. and Mrs. Willard O. Willis celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Saturday, October 21, with a family dinner at the Sirloin Stockade in Ardmore.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis, the former Lois McFadden, were married on Thursday, October 19, 1935 at Enville with the Rev. Miller, a Methodist minister, officiating.

They made their home in the Enville Community until 10 years ago when they purchased a home in Marietta and moved to town.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis are the parents of four children, and there are 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Celebrating their anniversary with them were their children, Claudia Harris and G.C. and Becky Willis of Ardmore, Barbara Blakely of Wilson and Brenda Hicks of Jimtown; and Mr. Willis' twin sister Wilma McFadden, and Leta McFadden of Ardmore. There were also six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren present for the occasion.

ENVILLE -- Funeral for Sheryl Lynn Harris, 46, Greenville, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Enville Community Church with the Rev. Hubert Sponsler, the Rev. Don Williams and the Rev. Lawrence Anderson officiating.

Born April 4, 1955, in Wilson to Carroll and Lorene Nipp Montgomery, she died Feb. 21, 2002, at an Ardmore hospital.

She married Randall Harris on June 26, 1974, in Gainesville, Texas. She lived all of her life in Love County. She was a 1973 graduate of Marietta High School. She graduated from the licensed practical nursing program at Murray State College in 1984 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from East Central University in 1991. She had been employed by the Love County Health Department since 1985. Her hobbies included spoiling her grand-children, spending time with family, sewing, shopping and her flower garden.

Survivors include her father and mother, Carroll and Lorene Montgomery, Marietta; husband, Randall Harris, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Brandy Harris, Marietta; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Tim Johnson, Greenville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Rebecca Montgomery, McKinney, Texas, Greg and Sue Montgomery, Corinth, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Bronwyn and Jackie Carter, Marietta; three grandchildren, Garrett Jay Johnson, William Randall Harris and Haley Dawn Blackwood; and a niece, Kelsi Carter, Marietta.

Bearers are Roger Griffin, Jimmy Williams, Charles Milor, Dennis Vernon, Joe Russell and Jeff Willingham. Honorary bearers are Dr. Tom O'Connor and uncles, Conver Nipp, Gene Nipp, Donnie Nipp, Clyde Nipp, John Nipp, Charles Floyd Nipp, Curtis Nipp, Randy Montgomery, Harold Montgomery, Gene Montgomery and Thurman Ward.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. today at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
