Clifton is in south-central Lincoln County, northwest of present-day Meeker. It had one of the earliest post offices established in Lincoln Co., but when the Atchinson, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad went through Clifton was bypassed.
Meeker was platted along the railroad and, and first, was served by the Clifton Post Office. By 1903 Meeker had outgrown Clifton so a new office was established there and the Clifton office was discontinued.
