Was Bedfast for Many Months at Home of Son - - 82 Years of Age

Ashley Hollenbeck, eighty-two years of age, a resident of Hennessey and vicinity for seventeen years, crossed the great divide at the home of his son Grandville Hollenbeck, three miles northeast of Hennessey, Wednesday morning, where he had been confined to his bed, a helpless invalid for several months, the result of a fractured hip. The injury was sustained through a fall at his home on South Cheyenne street, in Hennessey.

The funeral will be held from the Methodist church in Hennessey tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Revs C H Barnes and J B Stocking will officiate at the funeral. Interment will be made at the Hennessey cemetery, beside the remains of his wife, whose death occurred in 1912.

The deceased came to Oklahoma in 1899, from the dairy section of northern Iowa, where he had gained a modest competence through his industry and thrifty habits. He was a man of strong and rugged character, and the friends he made in later years were not many, but they were true and lasting. Among the older residents he had many who will remember him as a true and kind friend and neighbor.

Ashley Hollenbeck was born in Geneseo county, New York, Aug 2, 1833, and at his death, was 82 years, 5 months and 17 days old.

When a small boy he moved with his parents to Chautauqua county, N Y, where he grew to manhood, and in the year 1854 was married to Elizabeth Clark. They moved to Delaware county, Iowa, in 1859.

Seven children were born to them, six of whom are living: Grandville and Ed Hollenbeck, of Hennessey; Mrs Jennie Farwell, who recently moved with her husband to Elk City, Okla; Will Hollenbeck, of Lovell; Mrs Della Hollenbeck, of Bay City, Texas; and Mrs Blanche Ryan, of Dundee, Iowa.

Mr Hollenbeck moved from Iowa to Oklahoma in 1899, locating on a farm a few miles northeast of Hennessey. After farming several years he moved to Hennessey, residing here continuously until his death. His wife died in 1912. In his last illness he reiterated many times his readiness to follow.
