Scales family in Hughes County, OK
I am searching for information and descendents for the Thomas Scales family who lived in Holdenville from it's beginnings.Scales was an Indian trader with his store located in Wetumka. He was also the 1st Postmaster for , appointed on 2/1/1881.His wife was Emily. The children I have identified are:Mildred, Etta, Roy, Ella, and May. They were born in Indian Territory between 1877 through 1886.Thomas died in 1899 and Emily died in 1909.They are buried in the local cemetery in Holdenville.Roy died in 1915 of pneumonia and had been a very successful land leaser for an oil company. Several of the girls married and had children.
Only two children of that next generation which I have been able to verify grew into adulthood. They were the children of Mildred Scales Dixon: Henry, born about 1903, and, Alfred, born about 1905.I found Alfred Scales listed in the CA Death Index passing away on 5/29/1991 and buried in Riverside, CA.
I have pictures of the home in Holdenville built in 1898 and several pictures of some of the girls. The pictures were taken circa 1901. The girls attended Carlton College in Bonham, TX.I have the pictures because one of their friends was Rene Horton of Dallas, TX who visited the Scales family.Rene was my great aunt. I would like to share these with a true descendant of the Scales family.
