J. Edgar Smith, nephew of J.W. Goss, killed in gravel pit ?

I'm looking for information on a J. Edgar Smith, (probably between the age of 16-20 ) who was living with an uncle, J.W. and Ada Goss, in the early 1900's. He was supposedly killed in a gravel pit accident. Was this a common occurance in Mangum at that time? Would/where would there be a report on something like this?
I would greatly appreciate help on this matter.
