Emma - you posted this query about James Thornton about 7 years ago, so I hope you get this message. My family is orginally from Ninnekah and Chickasha, OK and my great-grandmother's maiden name was (Annie) Thornton. Her father's name was James Thornton and he was from KY by way of Texas, but we don't know much about him. I have also heard he was a Texas Ranger. Our family records don't record my great-great grandmother as being Indian, but Annie married my great grandfather, Ben Collins, who was a Chickasaw Indian. He and three of their four children (my grandmother was too young) received Indian allotments since they were on the Dawes tribal rolls. I can share more information once I know you've received this. Morgan
