Found reference in Craig County History to ED COWARDIN being raised by a man named JOHN CHOTEAU. Family legend has it that father CHARLES left 2 of his children, EMMA and ED with this family, then drifted around the area leaving the raising to Native American, John Choteau. I have looked in territorial census, but found no JOHN CHOTEAU of the right age. Ed raised his family in the Vinita, Blue Jacket area, and one source said CHOTEAU lived somewhere around Big Cabin. They would have come to OK after 1870 Also trying to track Charles, found him with wife and 3 kids in Ft Scott, Twp; KS in 1870 census, then lose him again until 1910 when he was listed as a toll bridge opr in Wyandotte OK, he died in Vinita Jan 25, 1926. He is buried in Fairview Cem next to his son Ed, grave not marked but listed in cemetary records. Notify Administrator about this message?
