We're looking for any kind of information about Joseph and Elizabeth Brown Milliken, who apparently ran a boarding house on Walnut Street in Wann, Oklahoma from some time around 1900 to after 1920. One of our perceptive fellow Brown family researchers translated the name "Mulligan" (from anecdotal files) to "Milliken", and suddenly all sorts of information sprang up.
Yet another of our sharp-eyed genealogists discovered that Joseph Erasmus Milliken (b: Nov 1848 in OH) married Lizzie BROWN (b: 25 Jan 1856 in MO) on 25 Dec 1871 in Henry Co MO. Joseph was the son of John Milliken (b.NC d.Clinton Co OH) and Margaret. Sometimes, we see John Milliken noted as having been born in Washington DC, but we suspect that's a mis-transcription from "NC" to "DC".
Elizabeth Brown was the daughter of Byron Stacy Brown (b.IN d.OK) and Charlotte Lucky (b.OH d.KS[?]). Apparently, Byron and Charlotte split up some time after 1880 in KS, and Byron's whereabouts had been a huge mystery in this line for many, many years. Another astute member of our group finally tracked down Byron in Greene Co AR, in 1900, with a different wife, "America"! Byron and America
were found again in 1910 in Creek Co OK, where we assume Byron died. America is ultimately found in The Eastern Oklahoma Hospital in 1920 in Craig Co OK, the county adjacent to Nowata Co OK. There had been many various explanations for the disappearance of Byron, including one story wherein the family had witnessed a scalping during their travels, and Charlotte refused to go on any farther; Byron went ahead and disappeared forever. Now, with the proximity of these people during the period 1900-1920, one questions that Byron ever "disappeared". It's hard to believe that he would be hiding out so close to other family. Perhaps he and Charlotte simply agreed to disagree. Does anyone have any record about a dissolution of Charlotte Lucky's prior marriage to Charles Jennings? Does anyone have a record of a marriage between Charlotte
Lucky and Byron S. Brown?
One family anecdote indicated that Joe and Lizzie Milliken had a daughter named Dorothy, but we could never authenticate that information. The surname has been spelled many different ways, including Mulligan. We are always happy to share information with other researchers. This Brown family has many researchers who have contributed their efforts to tracking down everyone in the line, and we all appreciate this combined effort.
