I figured out who Chess Hensley was. Anyway, she was in a note my Uncle Henry C. Brown had that she came to their home when Aunt Mattie was born. I did not know if Chess was a man or a woman. I just happened to open a book to her sister, Margret Hensley Griffin. That sent me to the Hensley write up. Chess is in the first two pictures on page 247 of the History of Cotton County: Family and Area Stories. I now believe she was a young lady neighbor who came to give a hand with the family and household while Emma was recuperating from giving birth. Chess is also mentioned in her sister's bio on pages 217-18.
