STEWART in Walters, OK
Charles Edward STEWART Immigrated from Ireland 1800/1860. Married
Cherokee woman that had been on the "Trail of Tears" relocation probably
as a young teenager. Name unknown. Had two or more sons, Charles Edward Jr.
(my gfather), other name(s) unknown.
Charles Edward Jr. married Della Ann BROOKS from TX,
around 1885/90. They had 8 children and farmed 14 miles west and 2 miles
south of Walters, Cotton County, OK, until 1924. Charles and Della are
buried in the Walters Cemetery. My father, the youngest of the eight.
said that his dad and brother must have received such good farmland
because they were half Cherokee. He also mentioned other uncles but no
names. His siblings were James D., Charles E., E. V. (Bud), L.Z. (Babe)
Oma Y., Monta M., Emma A. and my dad, Ona L., Except for Babe who
worked in the oil fields in the Texas/Oklahoma area, the rest moved to
California and most worked in the Bakersfield/southern California area.
