I am trying to find the family of my grandfather's sister ... Nancy (Nannie) Miller married Barnett W. Dillingham in 1894 in Gilmer Co, GA. The 1900 census lists them with two children: Aubah (female), age 4; and Earnest, age 1. According to my 93-year old mother (who seems to be the only one old enough to remember this family) ... "Uncle Barnett went out west by himself, then came back for Aunt Nannie and the kids. They may have moved first to Texas, but then they moved to Oklahoma. The only child whose name I can remember was Willie -- she and I wrote back and forth for a few years."
The 1900 census indicates that Earnest Dillingham was born in December of 1898. And from the Social Security Death Index: Ernest Dillingham - born 3 Dec 1898, died Nov 1973; SS card issued in OK; last known address - Lawton, OK 73501. I'm quite comfortable that these are one and the same person.
Although Mother said "Uncle Barnett went out west by himself" I think that meant "without his wife and children." Quite a few people from north Georgia moved "out west" -- very likely other families/relatives also moved to the same area at about the same time ... we just don't know who they might have been.
My great-grandparents had 12 children and, reportedly, 98 grandchildren!! I've succeeded in finding information on more than 75 of those grandchildren, and would be forever grateful for any information or suggestions any of you might have regarding the Dillingham family.
