Settlement in Choctaw co OK before 1910

My ancestors Thomas M Abel or Ables and sons Silas and Mark Ables left Alabama and were in Choctaw co OK by 1910 and possibly before that. Could someone tell me why they would leave Alabama and go to Choctaw co OK? What was the appeal. Oklahoma became a state in 1907 so most of the countyu was probably wilderness. Was therfe free land or very cheap land? Thanks, Ross
