Ross,
Try Heritagequest. Sometimes you can access it via your library's internet. I also have a similar situation. My gg-grandfather was born in Tn ended up in Tx. After wife died I found him on the 1900 Choctaw Nation/Indian Territory (OK) census. I am also trying to find out if he was of Cherokee or Choctaw descent and was applying for some sort of compensation. This is a bit out of my genealogy knowledge so I am flailing around a bit. Hope you can access Heritagequest.
