Looking for any descendants of or information on the family of NANCY (BATES) and FERNANDO RICE DOBBS who came to Soper, Indian Terr. about 1889 from Lincoln Co., TN via Dardanelle, Yell Co., AR. JOHN L. DOBBS (1872-1917) m. PEARL NAPIER, daughter of PRICE N. NAPIER, probably in Soper. Their children, LUTHER L. DOBBS, b. 1905; BEULAH DOBBS, b. abt. 1910; JESSICA or JOSEPHINE DOBBS, b. abt. 1915 and LOUISA DOBBS,b. abt. 1916. Beulah m. an unknown HUMPHRY and a daughter, MONA J. HUMPHRY, WAS b. abt. 1928. After John's death from TB in 1917 this family moved to Pushmataha Co. John's older sister, ALICE B. DOBBS (1868-1937), m. JASPER L. ATKINS (J. L. Atkins)who managed a meat market and farmed in Soper until after 1937. Their daughters: ESSIE ATKINS (1887-1919) m. JEFF D. WALKER, (d. 1925) sone of Montezuma Vinard Walker and Katura McCloud. They had two children before she died of TB at age 32: INEZ WALKER (. abt. 1909) m. an unknown BUCKLEW, and a son, LONZA J. (L. J.)WALKER, (b. abt. 1915). The second daughter of Alice and J. L. Atkins was GRACE ATKINS (b. 1895 in Soper and d. 1986 in Santa Cruz, CA.) Grace m. ERNEST C. STEEN, son of C. and Mary E. Steen, abt. 1918. Their son JACK STEEN was b. abt. 1921, probably in Soper. This marriage ended in divorce. It's only thanks to Ron Henson's wonderful obits. transcribed and on-line at Choctaw Genweb that I have found as much information as is here.
