Fitzgerald's in Hugo, Oklahoma
I am looking for information on a Maggie "Rawls" Fitzgerald born December 14, 1869 and died June 8, 1953 and is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery - Choctaw Co., Hugo, Oklahoma. Maggie married a C. P. Fitzgerald, and I can't seem to find anything on him or his family. I don't know if Maggie was married before C. P. Fitzgerald or not.
For Maggie I am trying to find out her parents names, and the names of children she had, by C. P. Fitzgerald or by someone else.
My grandmother said that her mother was Maggie "Rawls" Fitzgerald but she also said at another time that she could not remember who her parents were. She mentioned a surname Bennett also. She also mentioned that she almost married her brother. I have no clue what this brother’s name was. My grandmother also said that she was married before my grandfather and had a son by this man. I have no clue who this person is either or where they were married.
On my father birth record it shows Bennett as her maiden name. But on my grandmother death record it shows Fitzgerald as her maiden name. My grandmothers’ name was Rosa Lee Bennett or Fitzgerald. Or Rosalee, or even Rose Lee I have seen them all.
I do know that she remembered her date of birth. She was born March 10, 1907 in Spencer, Oklahoma. She died March 8, 1968 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma she is buried at Sunnylane Cemetery in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
The story goes, that she was born in Spencer, Oklahoma her father ran her and other siblings off with a garden hoe. She came to live with the Fitzgerald’s. But then I have heard the story the other way around that she lived with some people named Bennett. I have talked to an Uncle who told me that he remembers going to Poteau, Oklahoma by the mountains where grandpa Rawls lived. He remembered two cousins named Tommy and Mary. He also told me that Maggie lived in Hugo, Oklahoma and died there. I also know that my grandmother had Indian blood, she had the Indian nose and high cheekbones. Believing it to be Choctaw!
If someone is looking up obits there in Hugo, Choctaw Co., Oklahoma, I would be grateful for the help of finding one on Maggie "Rawls" Fitzgerald.
I have search and search and have come up empty on this story. If anyone, has any clue to where to look or what to do please e-mail me and tell me where you found this information, I get a lot of e-mail and delete a bunch of them, so please explain your story to me. Thank you! Debbie
