Hi Joshua,
Thank you for giving me a shout back. I am looking for a John Thorn born about 1820. I have one but I can not find him. Your Thorn family in the Oklahoma area has a John Thorn whose wife, Quaity, is shown to be born in 1820, so John should be about the same age. However not much else is known about John & Quaity Thorn.
My John Thorn that is missing, would have been born in Jackson Co, Ohio, about 1820-1821. He would have been the older brother of my GGGRandfather Sanford Thorn. Sanford was born in 1825 in Jackson Co, Ohio. Sanford, has a short biography published in 1896. Which mentions that he has a brother, John. But does not say if he is alive or where John is at. My Thorn family moves from Ohio to the Des Moines, IA area about 1845, there is a Jno Thorn from that area, that joins a wagon train for the gold fields of Calif 1849. An uncle & a cousin of Sanford's are known to have went to the gold fields as well. So, I suspect my John Thorn may have headded West & may have gotten as far as Oklahoma. Then again maybe he is one of the thousands buried along the trail or lost to gold fever.
Those whome I have corresponded with, say the John Thorn of Tahlequah is from Carolina. So, I have not been on that trail for a while, but then again the could be in error. so I will chase this around for a bit & see what I get.
