River Gives Up Bodies of Two Sisters
Body of Mrs. TREVA JEWELL NICHOLS, 34, of Burneyville, one of two women who drowned in Red River near Burneyville Friday evening, was recovered last Saturday more than a mile from the place where she disappeared. Her sister, Miss JUANITA JOYCE MOBLEY, 13, who lost her life at the same time, had been found at 9 p.m. Friday, a hundred yard s from where they were swimming…. Mrs. Nichols, her husband, BILL NICHOLS, their daughter RETA BERNICE NICHOLS 10, and JOYCE MOBLEY 13, WANDA MOBLEY 11, sister of Mr. Nichols, were in the family swimming party. The Mobley girls and Mrs. Nichols are the daughters of P. A. MOBLEY also of Burneyville.
Morning wedding service performed for Miss NADINE WRIGHT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. WRIGHT of Duncan, and LEONARD EARL FOSTER, son of Mrs. E. T. FOSTER of 914 West Broadway and the late Mr. Foster. The home of Mr. and Mrs. TOM ECHOLS, 602 McLish Ave., was the scene of the wedding.
In an outdoor ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. R. DOBBINS, Miss BILLIE ARLEETE DOBBINS became the bride of WILLIAM PAUL SEIG, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. SEIG of Sulphur.
Double Ceremony
In a double ceremony July 7 at Gainesville, Texas, two Ardmore couples were married. Miss MAUDELL HICKS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. JOHN HICKS of 503 A St. NE, and HENRY STRACNER, brother of Mrs. LESTER HARRISON of 918 A. St. NE; Miss JEWELL GAMMON, daughter of Mrs. ADA BIRD, 424 Fifth Ave. SE, and ERNEST CLAYTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. CLAYTON, south of Ardmore.

OTTO BUTLER, for 38 years, has lived in the Ringling community. The Butler ranch is 8 miles west of Ringling and two miles east of Claypool on the highway. He has 320 acres and raises cattle and does some farming, too. His home has a rural electric line. Windmills are used to pump water on the ranch. Butler just completed a well a few days, drilled to 110 feet and water rose within 8 feet of the top. Beginning Wednesday, Butler will have as many as 100 bushels of Elberta peaches he will offer for sale at the orchard for $3 a bushel. Butler came from Searcy County, Arkansas and he knows something of raising fruit.

Died in Lake Texoma
A father and daughter, part of a family on vacation in southern Oklahoma, drowned six miles east of Marietta, while enjoying a swim. Their deaths brought to four drownings in Lake Texoma in Love County this past week. FLOYD GREEN, 38, of Miami, employee of Goodrich Tire and Rubber Co., and his daughter, JUDITH ANN GREEN, 15, were drowned. The Greens were visiting relatives, ALEX RAWLS and HERMAN FLOWERS in Love County. They had been to Lake Murray and set out to visit Lake Texoma. On the road they came to the arm of Hickory Creek which had swollen to a sizeable body of water and decided to swim. The girl and her younger sister got into difficulty and their father attempted to rescue them, resulting in the drowning of the father and the older daughter Judith.

DOSSIE H. HARWELL
Funeral arrangements for DOSSIE H. HARWELL, who died Sunday, are announced by Bettes Funeral Home. Services will be at the Assembly of God Church in Ringling on Tuesday with Rev. CRUCE HARRIS of Velma, officiating. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Ringling. A resident of Ringling, he was 45 years old.

WILLIAM M. THOMASON
Services will be held Thursday at the Graham Baptist Church for WILLIAM MORGAN THOMASON, who died in Fort Worth, Texas Wednesday. A former resident of Fox for 15 years, he was born July 4, 1864 in Athens, Alabama. His wife Mrs. TERNA ANN THOMASON died Feb. 29, 1940. Survivors include two sons, ED THOMASON of Chandler, and REUBEN T. THOMASON, of Fort Worth; a sister, Mrs. SALLY THOMPSON of Ardmore and seven grandchildren. Interment will be in the Graham cemetery with Bettes Funeral Home in charge. (The Texas death certificate has HARRY THOMASON and MARY REED as his parents, it should be MARY MALISSA with her parents as RAGSDALE and PHILLIPS; Mary Malissa’s second husband was M. M. REED who died at Redwater, Bowie Co., Texas, then her third husband was JESSE W. WADKINS /WATKINS when they married in Carter Co., OK in 1909.)

Miss MARTHA BEE DENNIS of Dallas, daughter of Mrs. MAEBON H. DENNIS of Greenville, Texas and O. R. DENNIS of Pauls Valley, became the bride of B. RICE, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. RICE of Greenville. She formerly lived in Wilson and is a graduate of Wilson high school.

56th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. HERING, 1303 Eighth Avenue NW, reached their 56th anniversary of their marriage Saturday. Residents of Carter County for more than 28 years, they were married July 20, 1890 in Saline County, Arkansas. Mr. Herring’s home was in Texas and his bride was a native of Tennessee. Since that time he has worked as a teacher, farmer, grocer, salesman and proprietor. One of their vivid memories is that of a flood at Ellis County, Texas; their home flooded with 2 ½ feet of water. Amid the debris, Mrs. Herring discovered their marriage license and after a little cleaning, it was as good as it was when it was issued. Mr. Herring saved his family from the flood by building a scaffold around three saplings. His wife aroused the neighbors by blowing an old tin horn. When they were rescued from the scaffold, Mr. Herring discovered the neighbors had removed the top of his barn to make themselves a boat. They have four children: Mrs. V. M. ESKUE, Mrs. VEIVA REXROAT, Ardmore; E. C. HERRING of Wilson and A. V. HERRING of Denison, Texas, and 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Fraziers Hold Family Reunion
Mr. and Mrs. I S. FRAZIER entertained last Sunday with a family reunion at their home two miles east of Springer. Present were four daughters, Mrs. M. K. APPLEHAY, Mrs. R. J. CUNNINGHAM, Mrs. L. S. JOHNSON, Mrs. JAMES M. KELLEY; one son, R. W. FRAZIER of Healdton; two sons-in-law, Mr. KELLEY and Mr. JOHNSON; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. R. W. FRAZIER, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. This is the first reunion in 19 years. Three sons and eight grandchildren were unable to attend but they plan to attend in 1948 when the Fraziers have their golden wedding anniversary. Pioneers of Carter County, Mr. and Mrs. Frazier have lived here since 1898. They moved to their present home, then known as Glenn in 1913, when it had a grade school, a church, postoffice, three general stores, a blacksmith shop and a gin. Mr. Frazier has always taken an active part in the community affairs, clerk of the Glenn school board for 15 consecutive years. On July 23 voting will take place in the Frazier home since there is no public place to hold the election.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. MORGAN of Healdton announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss MABEL MORGAN, to CLINTON R. FUHRMANN of Caldwell, Kansas. The wedding will take place Sept. 1 at the First Methodist Church at Bartlesville where Miss Morgan is in the research department of Phillips Petroleum Co. She is a graduate of Healdton high school and the University of Oklahoma with outstanding honors degree in chemistry. He is a graduate of Hennessey high school and a former Oklahoma A. & M. student until he entered the navy. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in electrical engineering, now employed at Cities Service Co. of Ponca City.
In early August, there will be the wedding of Miss JUNE RITTER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. TRAVIS MILLER of 403 B St. NE, and 1st Lieut. VERNON MOYERS, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. MOYERS, 205 Tenth Ave. NE, at the First Baptist Church. She is a graduate of Ardmore high school and attended Oklahoma College for Women, now employed by American Airlines. He attended Ardmore high school and Murray college one term before he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was commissioned June 2, 1943 and served overseas, injured at Iwo Jima, transferred from the Naval hospital at San Diego to the one at Norman, received his discharge last Thursday. They will live at Stillwater where he will enter college.
A shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. CREECY, 209 L St. NE, was given to honor Miss LULA ROTHSBERGER, the bride elect of their son, EDWARD WAYNE CREECY. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. BILL HOLLUBEE, are expected from Beeville, Texas, after Mr. Creecy is discharged from the Naval Air Corps at Galveston.
Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE GILLEY of Ardmore announce the marriage of their daughter LOUISE to TED THOMAS, SON OF Mr. and Mrs. BRUCE THOMAS, east of town. They were married at Gainesville July 16. The groom will report for merchant marine duty at Galveston Aug. 1.
Mrs. ELIZABETH IDA BAUCOM
Funeral services for Mrs. ELIZABETH IDA BAUCOM, 77, who lived in the Reck community for 39 years, will be Sunday afternoon at Reck. Rev. WHITE of Ringling will officiate and burial will be at Reck. Richeson Funeral Home is in charge. Mrs. Baucom had been in ill health for four years. She was the widow of a well known early day farmer in the Reck community. Born in Benton County, Tennessee, she moved to Reck near 40 years ago. Survivors include: Mrs. MARY ETHEL MCGAUGHEY of Reck, JAMES E. BAUCOM of Dostalos, California; ORA BAILEY of Reck, MARTHA HIDGSON of Orr and Mrs. PHILLIPS of Rubottom.
Last of Three Sons Return from Overseas
Here is a family being reunited following the war in which three sons were in the service: S 1/C ROBERT SPEARS, son of Mr. and Mrs. JOHN T. SPEARS, phoned his parents that he arrived at the separation base in Norman and will be discharged by Monday. Robert spent eight months in Japan and it took almost two months of make the trip from Japan to San Diego, on the U. S. S. PICKETT. He is last son to get back home. Sgt. JOHN T. SPEARS Jr. was in the service almost three years, service in England, France, Belgium and Germany, in the famous Ninth Army, right at front when Germany surrendered, discharged last March. S/Sgt. EDWIN L. SPEARS, the oldest of the three sons, was in the service almost five years, served in India, discharged last November. Their father served in World War I.

L. C. GIDDENS
L. C. GIDDENS, 57, brother of Mrs. GENE COWAN, case investigator for Carter County department of public welfare, died Sunday at Shawnee after a long illness, undergoing 30 blood transfusions. Giddens was in the grocery business at Healdton for years, later at Ardmore. He moved to Shawnee four years ago to do war work at the ammunition depot. Born at Ringgold, Ia. in 1880, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. GIDDENS of Ardmore. Besides his sister here, he leaves his wife and a daughter MARY LOU of the home address, 627 North Park at Shawnee, and a brother VIRGIL COWAN at Altus. Services and burial will be at Shawnee.
Veteran Killed by Lightning
The body of GLEN BUCHANAN, 20, was discovered Sunday morning, one mile east of Powell, where he was killed when struck by lightning Saturday evening. Buchanan, who was driving a tractor from Madill to Powell, where he lived with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. CARL BUCHANAN, was thrown from the tractor into a ditch. The tractor stopped in a nearby field. A veteran of five months service in the European theater, he was recently discharged from Army service, awarded a Purple Heart for a leg wound received in Germany. Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, three brothers, and a grandmother, Mrs. NANNY ROBINSON of Mannsville. Services were held at the Powell school Monday morning.

Pauls Valley, July 24: JAMES EDWARD STONE, 28 and his wife BETTY 24, both of Tulsa, were killed last night when Stone’s truck ran off a highway near here while rounding a curve. State trooper LLOYD MATHEWS reported.
