I received a note from a man who regarding a similar query on another bulletin board.I had mentioned that I was told by my great aunt that the cemetery is about 2 miles east of Elmwood, then south about one mile on a hill. There is (or was) an old church at the cemetery. My grandfather and his siblings visited it about 20 years ago, so it still existed then, though I don't know the name it had.The man who replied said that he thought the cemetery had been renamed to South Flats in the 30's/40's and then renamed again later. If he is correct, then some of the people in the cemetery would be Tiffins and Bullins (my family) and Garretts (his family).I don't have anything definite, though, and don't know if his cemetery is the same as mine.
I was interested to hear that your mother went to a school named Surprise.I've always wondered if my grandfather and his sister had the name correct -- it seemed odd.I would love to know if your mother knows about Surprise Cemetery. Also, does she have any idea how her school and a cemetery got a name like "surprise"?Thanks!
