Thank you Karen for the information. This post is fairly old and I have been able to find a few more bits and pieces for James or Jim as he mostly went by since I posted this. If you would like to take a look at my posting history to see what I've been able to find out, you can see what I've added.(Mostly on the Smith message board and one on the Mullinix board)I do know that my Grandfather and his father were both born in Tennessee as stated on the 1920 Census for Adair County. I have no clue as to why William was living with James and Margaret at that time and don't know if or when he went back to Tennessee. I've connected with a few of the Mullinix family members but haven't received any info from them. Am crossing my fingers in hopes that maybe someone might have some information as to James's family. I do know that James had a brother named Sam Smith who was living in Denham Springs, LA at the time of Grandpa's death in February of 1953. I just wish I could locate exactly where in Tennessee my Grandfather and his family were from. I do know that Margaret was born January 1, 1880 and raised in Fentress County. I had a researcher look for me to see if my Smith's were from this county and they were not. The problem is that there are many William Smith's with a son named James. It's just sorting through all of it. I thank you for any help that you might be able to give me. I've been on this quest for over 3 years now and I'm not giving up! I would like to know though how you come to think of James's dad being John William Smith?? Again, a big thanks. Diana
