Gordon,
I believe that they came from Northern Ireland - perhaps Antrim or County Down. They lived in Finch, Ontario Canada before emigrating. Patrick became a US citizen in the 1880s.
My father told me that the Close family(his father's family) - and the Hare family (his mother's family)came from similar places. The Close family came first. They were in Canada in 1829 - as my GGGrandfather John Close signed the McCabe list. There was also a Daniel OHare who signed the McCabe list. He was from County Down.(I have a copy of the McCabe List)
