Thank you for replying!! I have traced my ancestors back to John and Mary DUNAWAY in Wyandot County, Ohio. John and Mary had a son named James Allen Dunaway, who I can trace directly back to.
This is what I suspect/know--In the 1850 Census, John and Mary were incorrectly listed as DONNEWAY, but I'm sure they are the same DUNAWAY family that was married in Orange County, Virginia on 9 Jan 1816. Mary's name was actually Mary (Polly)Sutherland. The Dunaways moved to Wyandot County Ohio. Richard and Sarah (Massey)DUNAWAY moved to Wyandot County also - I am sure they are related to John and Mary but I don't know how. The 1850 Census for Wyando lists Richard and Sarah correctly as DUNAWAY.
The Viriginia connection seems plentiful- I have a copy of the book "Orange County Marriages 1747 - 1850", and I find many DUNAWAYs. There is an Edmund DUNAWAY, with daughters Ann and Margaret. There is a Thomas DUNAWAY. There is Mildred Dunaway - whole bunch of DUNAWAYs. I just don't know how they are related. Oh-in Licking County in Ohio (near Wyandot County)there was a Joseph DUNAWAY family, and I'm sure they came from Virginia also. I am at the point now where I know who they were, just not how they were related. Also, where did they come from before they moved to Orange County??
If you can help, I would appreciate it. I can tell you who James Allen DUNAWAY's children were, and where they are buried, if that will help you. My e-mAIL IS Floyd.Dunaway@gte.net. Thanks!!!
