Center and Bloom townships are not the same. Center is north of Bloom with Portage Township between them. See a township map at http://ohiodnr.com/Portals/10/pdf/cotwpmap.pdf
There are several possibilites that John is listed in the "Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of 1812" at http://www.accessgenealogy.com/ohio/war_of_1812.htm but you would need to know in which unit he served and no further information on him is available.
You may want to check for John at http://index.rbhayes.org/hayes/index or http://www.fortmeigs.org for info on the cemetery.
