Bill,
Thanks so much for your prompt posting. The website with the photo of the brewery and associated text is by me.Various websites have copied the stuff and that's good. The two Jacobs in the photo are the 2nd and 3rd generation Jacobs. The founding Jacob Halm died in an accident in the brewery in 1883 and this photo is 20 years after.
I've searched the microfilm of the Bryan newspapers.Photos in the news were VERY rare at that time but there were plenty of articles and society notes about the Halms, Kreaglohs and Kiesels.
The original photo was a large wall hanging above the sofa in the home of Ray Wheeler in about 1978 when I interviewed him in his home. Ray was the son of the last brewmaster and did odd jobs in the brewery alongside Art Halm, the son of (middle generation) Jacob.Later, after Wheeler died, Kevin Maynard, a former member of the Hist. Society, located the large photo and had a scan done of it.
I most definitely will check out the Lutheran Church and the state Masonic Lodge.I never thought of that.Kevin Maynard investigated large lodge photos he had heard of in the lodge attic and was told by the janitor that he had thrown the old things out.Maybe they ended up in Columbus. The Halms were Lutherans and later members of the Universalist Church.
Your ideas are very helpful.I will post if I find anything.
Bob
