The Halm Fountain City Brewery
My great-great grandfather was Jacob Halm, who founded it in 1864. The brewery was located at the northwest corner of Beech and Center streets in Bryan. Some years ago I wrote a history of the brewery which can be read in the local history room at the Bryan Library.
I have extensive information about the brewery gathered from contemporary news stories of the brewery and family, the Williams County History, interviews with family members and two men who actually worked in the brewery as children.
I have looked for years, in vain, for a photo of Jacob Halm (Senior). I have studio photos of all the rest of his immediate family but none of Jacob himself. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and some have speculated that he would have been pictured in a stack of old photos in the attic of the lodge building. However it seems as if those old group portraits may have been thrown away. If anyone reading this knows of a photo of Jacob Sr. (not his son Jacob), I would love to know of it. I live in Bowling Green and would come in a heartbeat.
