Obituary: Samuel Moss ~ husband of Priscilla Turbett
SAMUEL MOSS, was born in Brooke county, Virginia, Feb. 4, 1811, and died Feb. 25, 1901, aged 90 years and 21 days. He was the eighth of a family of twelve children, all of whom preceded him to the Spirit World.
In the fall of 1823 he came with his parents to Richland county, Ohio, and mostly made that county his home till the spring of 1853, when he moved to Williams county, O., buying and settling upon the farm where he died.
In 1833 he was united in marriage to PRISCILLA TURBETT, of Richland county, who cheerfully shared with him the toils and sorrows of life till June 13, 1882, when the messenger of death came and peacefully summoned her spirit to that joyful rest promised to those having faith in all the promises of the Lord Jesus Christ.
To them were born five children, three sons and two daughters, of whom JOSEPH died when twelve years old. THOS. MOSS, living near Hamer. MRS. CRAWFORD and MRS. HOLLENBAUGH, near Kunkle, and WM. MOSS, who lives on the old homestead, together with sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, and a large circle of friends remain to mourn the loss of a kind and loving parent and grandparent, a generous friend and obliging neighbor.
Father MOSS cleared and improved a farm in Richland county, then sold it and bought his farm in this county.
Father MOSS was endowed with a very strong constitution. Until a few of his later years he enjoyed the best of health, having in his time done a great amount of hard labor. His last sickness was of but short duration.
In his early manhood he experienced the hardships of the early hunter and all the trials of the first settlers of a new country.
In the fall of 1900 he united with the Hamer Presbyterian church, having long before this experienced that blessed peace promised to those who fully accept all the promises of the blessed Master. He patiently waited and was ready when the time came when he could go to his departed companion in that beautiful and blessed land of promise.
The funeral was held from the Hamer Presbyterian church on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 10 o'clock, Rev. J. P. STOCKTON officiating, and his remains interred in Flora Grove Cemetery.
His two daughters, MRS. CRAWFORD and MRS. HOLLENBAUGH, were sick and unable to attend the funeral.
