Alta Catilla Wurts (mistakenly referred to as "Alta Cavilla Wurts") and her husband Vernon Elsworth Thatcher appear with their four children in John R. Totten, "Thacher-Thatcher genealogy," pt. 36, New York Genealogical and Biographical Record 61 (1930): 387-394, at p. 393, which gives her place of birth as Darien Center, Genessee Co., New York. The alert reader will notice that in Totten's account the places of residence reported for Alta and her husband diverge about the year 1906, with Alta being of Massillon, Ohio, while he is of Medina, Ohio. The 1910 census reveals her as an inmate of the Massillon State Hospital, a mental institution, which corroborates the timeframe of the "post-partum depresssion of 40 or so years" reported at her death in 1946.
