Johnson / Johnston Family of Wayne Co., OH
Posted by: Ashley Emerson (ID *****1839) Date: March 29, 2002 at 19:35:01

I am looking for information on the following people:

Abraham (or Abram) JOHNSTON (or Johnson),
his wife, Hannah JOHNSTON,
and possible relatives,
Thomas JOHNSTON, Daniel JOHNSTON, Christopher JOHNSTON, and David JOHNSTON.

Abraham and Hannah's daughter, Ann Johnson, was born about 1804 in New York state. She was married in Wayne Co., OH, in 1823 to Arthur MOBLEY. They had at least one daughter, Martha Jane, born about 1825, before Arthur (presumably) died. Ann was remarried in Nov. of 1831 in Wayne Co., OH, to John KELSO, of Portage Co., OH. Their children were: Henry, Harrison, Hulda, William Richard, Ann Eliza, Julia, Perry, and John, Jr.

1820 Federal Census
Ohio, Wayne Co., East Union Twp.
microfilm: M33_93
page: 161 B

#16 Abraham Johnston
Males, under 10 = 1 (1811-1820)
Males, bet. 16-18 = 1 (1802-1804)
Males, of 16 & u. 26 = 2 (1795-1804) David ??
Males, of 45 & up = 1 (17 ?-1775) Abraham
Females, under 10 = 1 (1811-1820)
Females, of 16 & u. 26 = 1 (1795-1804) Ann
Females, of 45 & up = 1 (17 ?-1775) Hannah

Listed directly below, #17 Thomas Johnston, of 26 & u. 45

1830 Federal Census
Ohio, Wayne Co., Chippewa Twp.
microfilm: M19_142
page: 154

#1 David Johnston
Males, under 5 = 1 (1826-1830) Matthew
Males, of 20 & u. 30 = 1 (1801-1810) David
Females, under 5 = 1 (1826-1830) Mary Jane
Females, of 20 & u. 30 = 1 (1801-1810) Sarah/Sally

Note: this might not be the same David and Sarah family of Wayne Co., but it looks most probable.

#2 Hannah Johnston
Males, of 15 & u. 20 = 1 (1811-1815)
Males, of 20 & u. 30 = 1 (1801-1810)
Females, of 15 & u. 20 = 1 (1811-1815)
Females, of 50 & u. 60 = 1 (1771-1780) Hannah

NOTE: Christopher Johnston is listed on the previous page, at the very bottom, born betw. 1761-1770, which could make him a possible brother of Abraham, with the closeness in years (birth years of 1761-1771 compared to birth year bef. 1775).

So...it looks like this could be the possible family of Abraham and Hannah (?) JOHNSTON:

Abraham, born bef. 1775
Hannah, born betw. 1771-1775
Son (David?), born betw. 1795-1804 (1801-1804)
Son, born betw. 1802-1804
Ann, born 1804
Son, born betw. 1811-1815
Dau., born betw. 1811-1815

Possibly, there were other, older Johnston children who were not living with Abraham and Hannah in the 1820 and 1830 census records. It looks like Abraham died before 1830 and Hannah before 1840. Need to find Abraham in the 1810, 100, and possibly 1790 census records.

Any information is welcome.
Ashley
