Alpheus BAKER (NY-OH)
Posted by: John Hughes (ID *****5346) Date: March 30, 2010 at 12:55:41

My gg-grandfather is Seth BAKER born New York 1822. I was informed that his father was also Seth born in New York about 1799. However, I can not prove this and have found no evidence to support it.

However, on the 1850 census I find my Seth BAKER in Washington County, Ohio, age 27. In the two households preceding him are first Alpheus BAKER Jr. age 29 born in New York. Next is Alpheus BAKER age 53 born in New York, his wife Marietta age 48 born Massachussetts, and several children ages 7 - 22 all born in Ohio. Note that on the 1880 census (Benton County, Arkansas) my Seth BAKER lists his father as born in New York and his mother born in Massachussetts. So, this would seem to fit and I believe that the father of my Seth BAKER is this Alpheus BAKER. This census information is the only evidence I have. Does anyone have any information on this Alpheus BAKER, or my Seth?

This Alpheus BAKER can found in Washington County, Ohio, census' for 1880, 1860, 1840 and 1830. In 1830 there is another Alpheus BAKER age 60 and under 70, probably the father.

Can anyone confirm the children of this Alpheus BAKER born about 1797 New York?
