Silas MOREY & Elizabeth BENSON's descendants in Ohio
I am a direct descendant of Nathaniel MOREY and Elizabeth "Betsey" HARDING. According to the Washington County Ohio History, they arrived before 1809 from New York with their children, Cyrus (aka Seneca), Benson, Julia and Maria. Nathaniel disappears (deceased?) before the 1820 census, and Betsey is listed as the head of the household, living with a minor female. Around 1821, she marries Alexander McCoy.
I believe that Nathaniel was one of Silas MOREY and Elizabeth BENSON's (married 5 Sept. 1768 in Dutchess Co.) 10 children, but I have only circumstantial evidence to support it. On some Daughters of the American Revolution applications, Nathaniel is listed as a son, but I have no concrete proof. One of the sons is named Benson, Elizabeth's maiden name. My ancestor is the other son, Cyrus, which is similar to Silas. After Silas's death in 1825(no burial place is recorded, but his name is on a plaque at the Athen's Co. Ohio courthouse),land records in Athens Co. indicate that Jonathan MOREY is living in Washington Co. Ohio, which is where Elizabeth files for a widow's pension. Why go there, unless there is family there? Benson had moved to another county, but Cyrus, Julia, and Maria were still in Washington County.
Cyrus MOREY (b. about 1807)and Rebecca HAGERMAN were parents of Seneca Clark MOREY (B. 1837). He married Jane Elizabeth FARIS, and they were the parents of Clark MOREY (b. 1860). Clark married Hattie Mae TYSON, and my grandmother, Doris was born to them in 1906. As I work on this puzzle, I am grateful for any information and am willing to share what information I may have.
