When I was seven us sibblings called my Lehenbauer grand mother Grandma Thompson, Why I don't know ! So this could be why the kids were called by mother's maiden name. I am 71 and in 1950 when the census taker came around it was a big deal for our family as a visit from someone was big time. We would talk among us as to what information was correct, not having anything to look at. This is probably why info is not always right on the money. My grand parent house burned and there was arguments from that time on as to when everyone was born. Hope this brings some understanding . Emil
