Hi everyone,

Well this is interesting - I have found old posts which indicate that one SIMON GILLESPIE from Boutetourt Co. VA ( is this the GROUP 2 SIMON that we are looking for? ) resided in Warren Co. Ohio for a time.

Now scroll all the way down in this message to see the lineage of our new GROUP 1 WILLIAM GILLESPIE who also resided in Warren Co. Ohio.

Can't all these separate Gillespie lines just stay in their own separate corners of the country so we can have an easier time keeping them straight! LOL -- maybe we need to test descendants of the VA SIMON and the Warren Co. OH SIMON just to find out for sure that they are the same line or different lines.

Simon Gillespie, from Boutetourt Co, VA, came to Hamilton, Warren Co, OH in 1799. Married Hannah Cane. Had a son Norillo Gillespie born 13 Feb 1814. Simon is believed an early settler of Hamilton Township and to have died 8 Sept 1848. Do not have any grave sites, wills or any other info on either Simon or Hannah.

He d. 7 Sept 1848. He married Hannah Cane, b, 24 Aug 1784 location unknown, d. 14 May 1855 location unknown. Simon's b., m. and d. locations are unknown. Seeking to fill these holes. Simon Gillespie is a common name for Botetourt Co. Anyone tie this together, back to PA?

I am trying to research the Botetourt Co, VA Gillespies, specifically Simon Gillespie, per the following reply I made on a GenForum item to Tom Gillespie:

"" Tom, may have some material you will find interesting, plus, would like to have your material on the Botetourt Co Gillespies:

The Botetourt Co line(s) also go to OHIO in 1799: From "The History of Warren County, Ohio" by W.H.Beers & Co., Chicago, 1882, pg. 967: "His first marriage was celebrated in Mason [Ohio] with Miss Thisbe Gillespie, in 1858. She was a daughter of Simon Gillespie, one of the early settlers in Warren Co, who came from Botetourt Co., Va, in the year 1799, and located in Hamilton Township [Warren Co, OH].

Our family records state Norilo, Thurissa, Lathelis, Zindora, Harvester, Ebeline, Samuel Philo and Thisbe were Simon's kids. My line is from Norilo. The year 1799 jives with your movement date. Simon m. Hannah Cane.

Know any Botetourt Co Cane families? Since Simon's kids names are so unusual, do these tie back to any similar names? Any similar Cane names? Would you cite sources on the Botetourt Co Gillespie line, where you got Simon's name, etc.
