This Gillespie line listed below is a new DNA match to THOMAS GILLESPIE b. 1719 and wife NAOMI THOMPSON of Rowan Co. TN and Col. GEORGE GILLESPIE b. 1735 of Limestone, Washington Co. and Greene Co. TN. The common ancestor of these three matching DNA lines has not been established. The descendants of Thomas b. 1719 and Col. George b 1735 have tested at 67 markers and this has established that they are very closely related. The descendant of William b. 1837 tested at 12 markers and has just upgraded to 67 markers to provide better data for comparison. We will have those upgraded results at the end of May 2007.
WILLIAM GILLESPIE is listed as generation #1 and was b. in Ohio according to census records. Family lore for this line says their Gillespie ancestors resided in PA prior to moving to Ohio. Family lore also says their Gillespie ancestors were in Ireland prior to arriving in PA. In the 1850 census Generation #1 WILLIAM is a child of 13 years and his mother is listed as head of house hold. The name of WILLIAMS father is unknown.
