My gr-grandfather, William Williamson, d. 24 Sept 1866 in Chambersburg, Pike Co. IL. Papers from the Normal, IL Soldier's and Sailor's Orphan's Home (in re to disposition of his 4 children) show that William was b. 1832, Hamilton Co. OH. 1860 Madison Co. IL census shows William as born in IL about 1832. I am wondering if he may have been from Hamilton Twsp, Warren Co. OH.
William m. Sarah Thornton at EDWARDSVILLE, MADISON CO. IL on 23 June 1858. Sarah was born to John and Mary Elizabeth Gelder Thornton in Yorkshire, ENG on 15 April 1837. The Thorntons resided in Macoupin Co. IL. William served with 144 US INF (Alton Battalion) during the CW. I can only find one other Williamson in 1860 Madison Co. IL---and that would be Edward--who was serving time in prison. One Charles Way is a neighbor to William Williamson and Sarah in 1860 Madison Co. IL. I can find nothing on anyone except Sarah. I also know about my grandfather, William Albert Williamson, and his 3 siblings.
There are many families in patron's index for Macoupin Co. IL who came from so many different areas of OH.
Thanks for any info.
