Could someone give me a run down on why Mason, Ohio,is named Mason?

Searching for the family surname Mason in the area of Warren, Ohio, is a challenge, but I would like to sort out the various possibilities in the naming of the town, etc.

Seeking information on a James Mason dec'd of Warren Co Ohio in TN records 1 June 1810.

Other names mentioned:

William Mason, Adm. (in TN)
Leonard Sanders
Heg Maston, heir of Jesse Linton
Thomas Matson, witness
Samuel Mason
