The lady at the library - Roselle - is exceptionally good at helping people research at the library. She is retired from the library but does volunteer work there now.
Elk Cemetery is big and you almost have to know where to look to find any one particular person there.
I got into my books to look up any more Marcum/Markham lines for you. Forgive me if I may give you something you already have. Better to repeat than omit.
From "History of Vinton County, Ohio" by Lew Ogan, 1954 [my grandpa]: William J. Marcum, Zaleski, was working at one of the saw mills, circa 1950. Also: Concerning a discussion as to what to build on a corner property [apparently where the hotel is now], Grandpa wrote, " I moved to get possession of this corner where the big sign is, and had an option on Mr. Lantz's property adjoining it on the south and had the assurance of Mr. Wm. Markam [sic] for his property on the corner for a certain sum and I had the financial backing to go through with it, as that party is here now in McArthur, who will attest to this statement and I had made arrangement to lease this corner in the new building proposed to Mr. Edd. Rosser, your present postmaster for a confectionary business. Mr. Rosser will now attest to this arrangement. In twenty-four hours after I had talked to Mr. Markam and while I was getting ready to have the deal closed (as Mr. Markam owner of the building on the coner lot would not option at all on any terms at any price) I learned that he had sold it to the present owners, gave the saloon parties the preference, he being a church man. I had more confidene in the deal."
From Louise Ogan Biggs' book "A Brief History of Vinton County, 1950": under Business District for Zaleski 1896 - Markham, W. M., boots and shoes. Under the Hamden business directory 1896 - Markham, A. V., blacksmith.

I don't seem to have anywhere for Mary Marcum who m. a Mace and Millstead. If it was later than 1888 in V. Co, I don't have my 1888-1896 marriage record book right now.
Our headquarters are in Alice's House, 207 S. Sugar St., in McArthur. If you find McClure's restaurant on the main drag, Rt. 50, that is Sugar St. on the side street. Except that you want to go across Rt. 50, heading south.
Mace Cemetery is on Mace Cemetery Road, off of Rt. 32, east of Rt. 160, on the right heading east. Can't miss the cemetery up the road a little ways.
Hope that this helps a little. Happy Hunting.
