Thomas Vance family

I am looking for any information on the Thomas Vance family who is located here around 1860's and his wife Nancy died there aft. 1900. They were originally from Guernsey County, OH. I am not directly related to him but he and my third great-grandfather shared the same father. His son Thomas jr. also was in the same company of 69th Ohio as my 2nd great-grandfather during the Civil War. I am curious though as to why he moved to Vinton from Guernsey after selling the family farm. Thank you to anyone that can help.
