Hi Ruth,

Although I imagine that by now you have the information on John Lockwood, if not, you may find a trail with the following. There is a J. Lockwood noted in the 187th regiment of volunteer infantry. He enlisted in Feb. 1865 and was discharged in January of 1866. He was in Company B, the only company from Union County, in fact from Marysville. Now if you want to persue it, you could get his records from the National Archives, and from them find out what regiment he was in in the early part of the war. I know how difficult it is to read early letters because I am transcribing some Civil War hospital records!
