Note:
One source indicates that John may have been born in the area of Shropshire, England. As early as 1717, he is referenced as having leased land from the Joseph Boarman estate located on Zachiah Swamp (near the town of La Plata, MD.). On 9 March 1717 John was a witness to the will of Joseph Gardner - his father-in-law ? (Ref: Maryland Calender of Wills, Vol. 4, another source indicates that the citation should be Maryland Calendar of Wills Vol. 14, p. 611). In a deposition of 1720 John stated that he was approximately 50 years old at that time (Ref: Index of Chancery Depositions, Maryland Historical Magazine, Vol. 23, p. 151).

An additional lease of the land occured in the neighborhood of the Zachiah Swamp on 20 October 1724. In that vincinity, he was a farmer on a parcel of land called 'The Nutfield' on the east side of the swamp near the town of La Plata. He is referenced as having gave a deposition in Charles Co., MD on 1/9/1726. He appears in 1733 in the tax records of Charles Co., MD. as has having 4 taxables, number 89, in the vincinity of Newport West Side Upper Part. On 10 January 1736 and 29 December 1736, John was again involved in depositions in Charles Co., MD. It is reported that John and Sarah may have had as many as eight to eleven children.

Charles County, Maryland - Will of John Glaze, Sr. Dated December 26, 1732 and probated on 26 December 1738 and 7 February 1739 in Charles County, MD.

In the Name of God, Amen. I, John Glaze, of Charles County, in the province of Maryland, being infirm of body but in sound and perfect memory do make this my last will and testament as follows:
I bequeath my soul to God who gave it, my body to the earth, after my departure to be decently buried at the charge of my estate and discretion of my Executrix hereafter named.
Item: I will that my just debts and funeral charge be first paid.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving son John Glaze one shilling sterling money.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving son Thomas Glaze one shilling sterling money.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving son Joseph Glaze one shilling sterling money.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving Benjamin Glaze one shilling sterling money. Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving son Samuel Glaze one shilling sterling money.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Mary Glaze one cow and calf.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Margaret Glaze, one cow and calf.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Elizabeth Glaze one cow and calf.
Item: I nominate, constitute, and ordain my loving wife Sarah Glaze whole and sole executrix of this my last will and testament to whom the aforesaid Sarah my wife I give and bequeath all the remaining part of my personal Estate to her and her heirs forever.
I ordain that this present will to be my last will and testament. I witness whereof, I have set my hand and fixed my seal this the 26th day of December 1732.
Signed sealed in the presence of us: John Glaze, Thomas Osbon, Jn Gates.
On the back of the foregoing will was endorsed the following footnote:
Court Charles County: For the 7th day of February 1738, Osborn and Jon Gates subscribing witnesses to the within will being duly and solemnly sworn on the Evangelists of Almighty God and say that they saw John Glaze the testator sign the within will and . . . publish and dictated the . . . to be his last will testament and that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind and memory subscribed their names as witnesses to the said will in the presence of the Testator and at his request. Sworn before T. Hammond Probate filed February 7, 1738. Liber #AC4, Folio 86-7.

There is also some speculation that the instant John may have some relationship to the families of Gabriell ( will probated in 1719 ), Malachi and William Glaze families from Somerset Co., MD.. This needs additional research.

A possible indication for the parents of John may be located (?) from additional research re. Malachi and William Glaze. According to probate records, they were in Somerset Co., MD. abt 1690 - 1700. Also, SC colonization records show two Glaze occurances, Malachi and William, petitioning for land between 1715 - 1718. Another possability is Gabriell Glaze (?? - 1719) who married to Philadocia. Records show they lived in or around the area of 'Charlest Towne'. They had at least three sons: John, Malachi and William, and possibly one daughter: Sarah. Berkeley Co., SC, records show Gabriell's will probated in 1719.

Additional references for John Glaze include:
