excerpt from: History Of Summit County, "Biographical Sketches:", pp 826-827, Matthew, under M. CHAPMAN. farmer, son of John and Eliza Bassett Chapman. Matthew eldest of 7, others Harriet, Mary, Ellen, John, Henry, and Rufus. M. April 1849 Sarah B. Waite, dtr of Benjamin and Sarah Chapman of Boston twp, whose maiden name was Kent. Mathew has 2 children Emily m. W. Morse of Cleveland, and son William H, at home farm.
A history of Hudson, Summit Co. OH, mentions that John had two sons, Mathew and John. His death is mentioned and that Matthew inherited the farm - however, son John is not mentioned again. Son John however is mentioned in Hudson in other historical documents. Rufus & Henry not mentioned.
It's Allan Burton Chapman b abt 1833 I'm researching, apparently son of John since I heard as a child that he had a cousin (or uncle?) Rufus, Matthew's child.
