In 1850 they are in Portage, St. Joseph, IN:
Jacob E. Bender 33 PA, Ann 30 OH, Wilson S. 8 OH, David A. 6 OH, Mary Ellen 4 OH, Flora Isabella 2 OH, Margrette 26 OH.

In 1860 the Benders are in Bell Creek, Washington, Nebraska Territory: Jacob E. 43, Anne 39, Almon (David A) 17, Mary E. 14, Flora 12, Charles 9 IN, Clara 7 IN.

Wilson Bender stayed in South Bend but by 1870 he had married Lizzie. They and son Ellwood (b Feb 1870) lived in Reno, Washoe, NV. Wilson was a railroad agent, too, and his cook became David's cook in 1880.

In 1870 Anne Bender and her daughter Clara lived with Anna's son and his family in Sacramento, CA:
D. A. Bender 2, Emma E. 26 bp NY, Ella M. 3/12, Ann 50, Clara 17 and Jim HING 14 bp Canton, China.

In 1880, the Benders, less Clara are in Carson City, Ormsby, NV:

The railroad David worked for was the Virginia & Truckee, later known as the Carson and Colorado Railroad.
