I have just located the naturalization volume in Hamilton County OH's probate court that was "missing" 20 years ago.I still have not located his "intention" for citizenship (Shelby Circuit court for the state of Indiana), but this microfilm revealed that Benjamin R. Atkins born about 1836 is not my Benjamin Atkins born about 1828.Likely he is a relative of or possibly the son of Abraham J. Atkins since they had the same residences as early as 1855 in several of the Cincinnati city directories.
The microfilm has Benjamin R. Atkins' application and testimony from 1887, three years after the Court House burned and many records were lost.He was 51 years old in October 1887, so he was born about 1836.He emigrated from Cork, Ireland, about March 1849 (as a minor), arrived in Baltimore MD in April 1849 and said he went directly to Cincinnati OH.
Since my Benjamin also came to Cincinnati, Ohio about the same time and at some point his father John married or lived in Cork, the possibility exists that he may still be related somehow.
