John Joseph Seifert, 84, of l3l South Lake St., Carey, died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, May l4, 2003, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

He was born March 27, 1919, in Seneca Co., Ohio, to Oswald E. and Agnes O. (Wagner) Seifert. On May 25, l939, he married Marietta Niederkohr. She preceded him in death on March 29, l981.

Surviving are: three sons, Herman J. Seifert, Edward J. Seifert and Richard E. Seifert, all of Carey; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; eight brothers, William Seifert of Fremont, Thomas Seifert of New London, Urban Seifert of Sandusky, Robert Seifert of Tiffin, Louis Seifert of Redford, Ga., Harold Seifert of Dewitt, Mich., Oswald Seifert, Jr. of Indiana and David Seifert of Thermopolis, Wyom.; and two sisters, Mrs. Sam (Helen) Vadala of Tiffin and Mrs. Wayne (Ruth) Woods of Richmond, Va.

Mr. Seifert retired in l981 from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers of America in Toledo.

He was a member of Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. He was also a life member of American Legion Post 344, V.F.W. Post 3759, and Eagles Aries 2198 in Carey, Knights of Columbus Carey Council 1925, Carey Conservation Club and the Moose Lodge 872 in New Riegel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday May l7, 2003, at Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey with the Rev. Regis Schlagheck, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday, May l6 at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with a Scripture service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
