Looking for anyone anywhere who may help me on the JOB GROSS family. The OHIO 1840 Federal Census, (FTM CD #316 ), is the ONLY reference to a JOB GROSS I have EVER run across in my entire search since 1991. Is there anyone out there searching GROSS'? My GROSS Ancestry: - My father is LESTER ALVAH GROSS - his father is GEORGE WASHINGTON GROSS - his parents were "JOB" GROSS and "LIDA" DEMPSEY, (supposedly a cousin to the prizefighter, JACK DEMPSEY...unproven).
Very little info re JOB and LIDA (which may be akas, who knows?). My Grandfather, GEORGE WASHINGTON GROSS, left home at a very early age. He did not like to talk about his family at all. The only info I have is that GEORGE said he came from a VERY large family of about 16 or 17 children, and that his father was a stern man. GEORGE WASHINGTON GROSS said that his birthplace was NEWTON, HARVEY, KANSAS, 1879. The only two of his siblings mentioned were a "BILL" and an "AL" GROSS, and that JOB and LIDA may have moved to MISSOURI in the later years. The frustration has been that I am unsure if "JOB" is really his first name, and that "LIDA" is her true name and that both of these may be akas! But....if JOB is for REAL, and the JOB in the SCIOTO COUNTY OHIO is right, and IF this is my JOB, maybe this is a START after 9 years!! My Grandfather, GEORGE WASHINGTON GROSS ended up in OK, TX, and eventually to FRESN0, CA, where he became ill and died in 1938, my birth year. So...Sure hope I hear from someone!!!.....Thanks....Joyce Rogers
